Climber’s Wall – 바위하는 사람둘암장 (바하람)

When you go out climbing with the intention of finding a new project, you probably want somewhere that’s mainly empty. This crag may be the one for you then! Climber’s Wall, or Baharam (바하람) as it is locally nicknamed, is one of the climbing areas on Samseong Mountain in Anyang. It is a lesser-known crag that is only about 10 minutes further along the mountain than the more popular Hidden Wall.

Climber’s Wall is a mix of slab climbing and overhang faces on granite rock. It has two separate walls that are about a 5 minute hike apart from each other. Altogether there are 22 routes, with grades that feel between 5.9 – 5.12. This entire crag is purposefully ungraded, so those ranges are a general idea based on other people’s experiences. Be sure that you know how to get down safely if you find yourself on a climb where you are unable to go any further. The average climb is about 20-25m tall, and almost every route is named after a different type of flower. You can find more details about the routes and where they go in the Sport Climbing in Anyang guidebook.

The approach is very similar to getting to Hidden Wall, as it is a neighboring crag. You use the same approach until you reach the Main Wall of Hidden Wall. Continue to the left past the Main Wall, following the trail leading further up the mountain. You will walk for about 10-15 minutes on this path until you reach a flat area with a well, some barbed wire fencing, and a small brick wall. There are rock steps going up the mountain to the right of the brick wall. Climb these steps and follow the trail along the steep path for another 5-10 minutes until you see the 1st Wall of Climber’s Wall.

Once you have made it to the 1st Wall, you can continue up the hill along the rock to the right until you see a small path heading across to the right side. Follow that trail for about 20 meters until you find the 2nd Wall, which is a smaller climbing wall.

This wall does get sun starting mid-morning on most of the routes. This crag is not as frequented as some other locations, so double check bolts and anchors as you’re climbing. Sometimes this wall is used as a training area for climbing classes, so it’s not always empty. However more often than not there will be a lot fewer climbers here than at Hidden Wall next door.
